Privacy Policy

Alcometer.org is built on a privacy-first principle: the calculator runs in your browser, and nothing about your individual body, drinks, or session reaches the operator's servers. This policy documents that design in GDPR-conforming language.

Data controller

The data controller within the meaning of Art. 4 (7) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR) is Piotr Zieminski, a natural person operating Alcometer.org on a non-commercial basis.

Postal address is published on the country-specific legal pages (for example, the German Impressum) and is available on request at alcometer@wp.pl for any legitimate legal purpose.

What data we collect on our servers

Nothing. Alcometer.org does not operate any database of users, does not receive form submissions, does not log individual page views to an analytics pipeline, and does not issue user accounts. The operator literally does not know who uses the site.

The hosting provider (currently Vercel Inc.) keeps short-lived operational access logs (IP address, user-agent, response code) for network-security purposes. These logs are governed by the hosting provider's own privacy notice and are not accessible to or processed by the operator for any profiling, advertising, or statistical purpose.

What stays on your device (localStorage)

To improve the user experience — so the calculator does not forget your preferences every time you refresh — the following may be written to your browser's localStorage on your own device:

• Body weight and unit preference (kg / lb)

• Preferred language and legal-limit jurisdiction

• Most recent session state (drinks list, start time) for the in-progress BAC curve

This information never leaves your device. You can inspect and delete it at any time using your browser's developer tools or by clearing site data.

Cookies

Alcometer.org does not set any tracking cookies. No third-party advertising cookies are used. No consent banner is required because no consent is solicited for non-existent tracking. If you see a technical cookie (e.g. a language preference stored as a cookie rather than localStorage), it is strictly functional within the meaning of Art. 5 (3) of the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC).

Health- and lifestyle-sensitive inputs

Body weight, sex, height, drink counts, timing, and jurisdiction choice can reveal sensitive lifestyle or health-related information about you. That information is processed only inside your browser when you use the tools; it is not transmitted to the operator, not used to train third-party models, and not sold or rented.

Alcometer does not run behavioural advertising and does not build marketing profiles from calculator inputs. The monetization posture (zero ads / zero affiliate / zero marketing analytics) is documented in the repository compliance pack referenced from the Editorial policy page.

Privacy controls, consent matrix, and cookie inventory

Use the footer link "Data" to open the Privacy controls page for your language. There you can download a JSON export of every canonical Alcometer localStorage key, review a written consent matrix documenting that analytics and ad-personalisation channels are off in the current build, and erase all keys in one action (the page reloads after deletion).

Use the footer link "Cookies" to read the no-tracking-cookie posture and see the same canonical key list for transparency.

Third-party services we actually use

• Hosting: Vercel Inc. (USA + EU edge network) — delivers static HTML and calculator code.

• Fonts: Google Fonts — CSS is served directly from Google's CDN. This may involve a network connection from your browser to Google. If you wish to disable this, use a browser extension that blocks third-party font loading.

We use no analytics platform, no tag manager, no advertising network, and no customer-data platform.

Legal basis and purposes

Where any processing does take place (essentially, hosting-level network logs), the legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — legitimate interest in providing a working and secure website. No consent is required for this minimal processing, and none is solicited.

Your rights

Under the GDPR (and under UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, Loi 25, LGPD and related regimes) you have the right to: (1) access; (2) rectification; (3) erasure ("right to be forgotten"); (4) restriction; (5) portability; (6) objection; (7) withdraw consent (Art. 7 (3) GDPR) — not applicable here because we do not rely on consent; (8) lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of your habitual residence or alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR).

Because everything Alcometer knows about you lives in your own browser localStorage, you can exercise the rights to access, portability, and erasure yourself from the buttons directly below this policy — "Download my data" emits a JSON file with every Alcometer storage key, and "Delete all my data" wipes them irrevocably. These tools satisfy GDPR Art. 15, 17, and 20 for the localStorage-based data set in a single click.

For any other correspondence — especially if you believe the hosting-level logs should be accessed, corrected, or deleted — please write to alcometer@wp.pl. Requests are answered within one month; extensions may apply under Art. 12 (3) GDPR.

Breach notification

Because the operator does not process personal data on any server, a data breach within the meaning of Art. 33 GDPR is not possible on the operator's side — there is no database to breach. If the hosting provider were to experience a breach affecting operational network logs, that provider is independently responsible under its own processing agreement and EU notice obligations.

In the unlikely event that a site-operator breach were ever to occur, affected users would be notified via a visible banner on the site and via the contact email under Art. 34 GDPR where the threshold requires individual notification.

International data transfers

Because the operator does not receive personal data, no international data transfer within the meaning of Chapter V GDPR takes place on the operator's side. The hosting provider may serve requests from data centres outside the European Economic Area; its contractual framework with you is governed by the hosting provider's own terms.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in law or site architecture. The "last updated" date at the top of the page is the authoritative version marker. Material changes will be announced on the site itself.

Your data - export or delete

Alcometer stores your profile, drink log, preferences, and acknowledgement timestamp only on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. You can download or permanently delete local Alcometer data at any time.

Starts a browser download with every Alcometer localStorage key for this site. Removes your profile, drink history, preferences, and acknowledgement from this browser. This cannot be undone.
